Stammen, 38, heads to the IL with a shoulder injury. He's 1-1 this season with a 3.34 ERA in 27 games for the Padres.
Over his last nine appearances, Stammen has allowed just three earned runs over 12 innings, posting an ERA of 2.19 with nine strikeouts.
"It's been something he's been dealing with, and it's gotten to the point where we need to shut him down and let him get and break and let him get back healthy again," Padres manager Bob Melvin said on Saturday.
Lamet gets another chance at the major league level after struggling in his first stint with the Padres this season.
In ten games with the Padres, Lamet posted a 0-1 record with a 9.72 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched.
"Lamet's been a talented guy here before. It's been kind of humbling for him to have to go back down to development," Melvin said. "But I know he's excited about being back here again, and when this guy's right, he's awfully good."
Since May, Lamet split time with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso. In 9.2 innings, Lamet was 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA.
