UFC Star Sean O’Malley Eyeing Fight With Conor McGregor
Craig Kidwell-USA TODAY Sports

UFC stars Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor could be on a collision course for a fight against each other. O’Malley, the current bantamweight champion, has made it known that he will do whatever it takes to set up a super fight with McGregor.

While making an appearance on “Raw Talk”, a podcast hosted by Bradley Martyn, Sean O’Malley discussed the lengths he would go to set up a fight with Conor McGregor. Despite currently fighting in the 135-pound weight class, he said he would be willing to go up to 155.

“He’s big nowadays,” O’Malley said of McGregor’s current weight.

A fight between the two superstars is not imminent or currently in the works, but it is one O’Malley would love to see happen down the road. Conor McGregor is set to return to the octagon after a three-year absence to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303.

That fight will take place at a catchweight of 165 pounds, which speaks to O’Malley’s point about how big McGregor has gotten. Normally, this isn’t something the bantamweight champion would entertain.

“I’m pretty realistic when it comes to big guys,” O’Malley said. “I’m like, ‘OK, I’m a 135er. I stay in my lane, and I do my thing.’ I could go up to 145; I’d fight [Alexander Volkanovski], I’d fight Max [Holloway], I’d fight Ilia [Topuria], but I stay in my lane.”

But, a big-money fight against Conor McGregor is worth leaving that lane for. It could be one of the biggest matchups in UFC history, with Sean O’Malley already on the star path and McGregor holding legend status.

“Conor’s one of the only guys I would fight that I’m like, ‘That motherf—er’s big,'” O’Malley said. “I would just fight him at 155. First of all, it’s a huge payday. Second of all, it’s Conor. That would be legendary. So, he’s one of the rare guys I would fight that are way out of my weight class.”

Sean O’Malley has not been shy when sharing that Conor McGregor is someone that he idolized as he was coming up in the MMA world. With his own popularity skyrocketing now, this could be a huge fight for everyone involved.

But first, McGregor has to handle business with a very dangerous opponent in Chandler. O’Malley has other things to focus on as well, as a defense of his title against Merab Dvalishvili is likely on tap for later in 2024.
