Tallon Griekspoor’s lifelong dream comes true as he gets an opportunity to train with Rafael Nadal ahead of Roland Garros
Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports

Dutch star Tallon Griekspoor has revealed his excitement to being called to train with Rafael Nadal in Mallorca after several previous attempts failed to materialize. The 27-year-old is known for his powerful serves, one of the things Nadal hopes to work on ahead of the Roland Garros.

Griekspoor’s best tournament this year was at the Rotterdam Open where he reached the semifinals before losing to the eventual champion Jannik Sinner. He also defeated Holger Rune in the round of 32 of the Madrid Open.

However, Nadal will be training with Griekspoor for three days starting tomorrow including several unmentioned players. The 22-time Grand Slam champion is hoping to train well, better than his Rome practices, ahead of the French Open.

In a conversation with NOS, Griekspoor revealed that Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya called him to inform him about the news. He added that despite Nadal’s age, he still plays incredibly on clay court.

I received a message from Carlos Moyá (Nadal's coach, ed.) asking if I wanted to come and train. This is special, especially considering the phase Nadal is currently in. I have never played against him or trained with him. He still shows an incredible level in training. I trained in Rome last week with Alexander Zverev on the court next to Nadal and we were amazed at how good he still is. An incredible level. Tallon Griekspoor said

Griekspoor has been to Mallorca several times because his ex-coach Dennis Schenk lives there. The Dutch worked with Schenk and despite their split, he still shares a good relationship with him. Meanwhile, Griekspoor will travel to Geneva on Friday for a more intense preparation ahead of the Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal set to play at the Roland Garros after Rome setback

Rafael Nadal looks set to play at the Roland Garros after weeks of remaining ambiguous about his participation. The 37-year-old fell to a disappointing loss against Hubert Hurkacz in the second round of the Italian Open.

After the defeat, the Spanish star revealed that he was uncertain about playing in Roland Garros. However, reports from Spain state he is physically fine and less dejected than expected. He is aiming to train with top players as a good preparation ahead of Roland Garros.

Nadal is in the final phase of this career. He is hoping to take each tournament step by step but he is yet to reveal which event he will play last.
